1. Composition
Laminate flooring consists of four layers of wooden boards. A transparent topmost outer layer, followed by the laminate wood design layer, a plastic resin layer that includes glue and wood chippings, and the backing the layer. Vinyl flooring on their part come either in the form of tiles or sheet and do not contain any timber or wood. Instead, they consist of a single layer of vinyl backed with fibreglass.

2. Resistance to Water
Since laminate floors consist of wood, they are not so reliable when it comes to handling waterproofing requirements. Exposure to moisture makes the laminate floors expand and warp. To that end, they are hardly suitable for use in bathrooms, laundry rooms and humidity filled utility rooms. All varieties of vinyl save for the floorboards are highly resistant to spills, water and moisture and are suitable for various application.

3. Ease of Installation
To successfully install the laminated flooring a person needs to stick the floorboards together using a lock then snap system. The same applies to the installation of the vinyl floorboards, however for the vinyl, a person must carefully measure and cut the boards, then spread them on the floor using glue to make it stick.

4. Efficiency in Different Flooring Surfaces
Naturally, both flooring types work best on flat and even surfaces. Vinyl, however, has an edge over laminate flooring when it comes to the flooring of imperfect or uneven surfaces. In case, the floor is flawed laying vinyl hardboard conveniently covers the defect. However if a person wants to use laminate flooring on a similar surface, he or she should spread the laminate material on the floor and then wait for a few days for the swelling of the laminate, before commencing with the installation exercise.

5. Pricing
The prices of the two flooring materials largely depend on the quality of the materials used, where those that contain high-end components might cost more. However, when it comes to value, vinyl floors are relatively cheaper in comparison to the laminate floors that contain expensive wood chippings.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance
The Laminate and Vinyl are easy to clean and maintain, a task that one can effectively carry out with a vacuum cleaner, mop, or wet cloth. Homemade cleaners and mild cleaning detergents do not pose any threat to the materials as well. However, when cleaning or scrubbing the vinyl it does not hurt being extra cautious since vinyl is softer and more susceptible to scratches.

7. Look and Feel
Even though the two flooring types helps to create a feeling of elegance and warmth, they accomplish that in different ways. A person can use a computer to create an image on the second layer of the laminate to create the desired impression or design. The four layer laminate also offers a thicker and warm feeling when a person steps on it. Vinyl also offers underfoot comfort although not comparable to that of the laminate. However, it also comes in a variety of colors to suit the tastes and preferences of a homeowner.
